LISTEN

“El Co” (“Co” being a nickname Bob gave his friend and co-band-leader, Clark Terry) is a three movement work written especially for the Composer/Arranger album to feature Clark. The work begins with a medium-up swing, followed by a slow ballad, and concludes with a samba. This is an incredible composition that has – because of its lack of availability – been overlooked for many years. So thankful that we are able to make this chart available to the public!

This is the first time EVER that this chart has been made available and hasn't been performed (outside of a couple times) since the early 1980s. The chart has been re-engraved and edited directly from Bob’s original manuscript score, and the original parts provided by the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. This work was included on the Mel Lewis and The Jazz Orchestra's recording, Bob Brookmeyer: Composer/Arranger, which was not only a pivotal recording in Bob's career, but from which every composition quickly became a staple in large ensemble repertoire.
