LISTEN

“Days Gone By, Oh My!” was written in 1961 and recorded on one of Bob's favorite albums, Gloomy Sunday and Other Bright Moments.  Half the record were pieces by other great arrangers – Al Cohn, Ralph Burns, Gary McFarland and Eddie Sauter – and the other half was all Bob’s – two arrangements and two originals, “Days Gone By, Oh My!” being one of them.  The band on the album was made up of some of the greatest musicians of the time:

  • Reeds:  Phil Woods, Eddie Caine, Phil Bodner, Al Cohn, Gene Allen

  • Trumpets:  Bernie Glow, Doc Severinsen, Nick Travis, Clark Terry

  • Trombones:  Wayne Andre, Bill Elton, Alan Raph, Bob Brookmeyer

  • Rhythm:  Hank Jones (p), George Duvivier (b), Mel Lewis (d), Eddie Costa (perc)

At the time of the LP release this piece was incorrectly credited to Gary McFarland, but there is no doubt – this is a Brookmeyer chart!  This is the first time since that recording session on November 7, 1961 that this music has been performed, and we are really excited to be able to offer this music to you.  This is historical music and we are happy to have it being studied and performed again.
